Website Testing
Any website should be tested from time to time to ensure that it is functioning correctly and is serving its purpose as well as possible. Here are some ideas as to what you should be testing:Usability
From time to time, give people unconnected with the site, for instance friends, a few tasks to perform on your site, and see if they can complete them easily. If not then you need to work on your navigation and structuring.Broken Links
The bane of many peoples lives is the dreaded 404 page not found error. If you have links between site content and off your site - and every website does - then you need to ensure that they are kept up to date. That means as a link change you need to ensure all links that connect to that page update in turn.If you have a content management system this might happen automatically with pages internal to the site, but external links will not so you should check these periodically. There are many tools that will crawl your site for you and report back a list of broken links, to save you trawling through your site manually and checking links on a best endeavours basis.
Accessibility
You should also test your site in a variety of browsers and monitors over a period of time, to ensure that changes do not have any adverse effect. Also ensure that the code you use is compliant and is well written.Download Times
It is also a good idea to test how long the site and pages on average take to download - the more the image content and the more text the longer that it can take.Require your website to be tested against specific criteria?
