What strategy tips will help me solve Nurikabe puzzles?
There are several strategies you can use to help you solve nurikabe.
One of the most important things to consider is that islands cannot touch therefore all adjacent squares between islands and as you build up islands, must therefore be water.
Also remember that all water cells must be connected, therefore when you have water cells at the edge of the puzzle or sandwiched between islands, remember to bring them out from the edge or from the sandwich area to ensure that they do not get isolated.
Another useful tactic is to look at reaching power of islands. Remember that you cannot have a 2x2 block of water. Therefore if there is a cell or cells on the puzzle that no islands can reach, then you may have situations where there is a danger of a 2x2 forming. Often this gives you what the shape of an island must be to stop this happening, as it must intrude into at least one of these four potential cells to stop the 2x2 square of water occurring.
