What are mental arithmetic puzzles?

These are any puzzles that quite simply require you to perform maths in your head.

Typically these calculations are subtraction, addition, division and multiplication.

With harder puzzles, they can also include operations such as squaring, square roots (where the square root is an integer!) and percentages.

These have become quite popular recently as a 'brain trainer' type puzzle and are typically seen as a list of sums that must be performed in a certain time limit.
