What are the rules of Hanjie?
The rules of hanjie are simple.
You start with a blank grid of a given size, e.g. let's say 10 x 10.
You are then told for each row and column a certain number. This could be 0 it could be 10, or anything inbetween.
This number corresponds to how many cells in that row or column are to be filled in to make the solution.
What makes it interesting is that these will often have a comma between them, for instance '2,3' which signifies that there is a gap of at least one cell between the filled cells in that row or column. In other words, there is a group of two filled cells, a gap and then a group of three filled cells.
The aim is to deduce through logic alone where each filled cell is and which cells must be empty, and in the process solve the puzzle which creates a picture at the same time.
You can also get colour hanjie, with more than one colour signifying how many cells in that region are filled in that particular colour.
