Silhouette Puzzle
Silhouette puzzles are a very visual puzzle, and make a superb addition to any kids puzzles publication - or can even be made a little trickier for adults or a mixed puzzles publication.
Silhouette puzzles can be be black and white or colour like the sample to the right. They tend to contain 4 - 5 images and then a silhouette. The aim of the puzzle is simple: to work out which of the almost identical copies of an object the silhouette represents.
This requires careful comparison of the different images to the shadow, to try and find which feature varies slightly in each image, until you find the one image that doesn't vary at all - and therefore you know that is the answer to the puzzle. For instance, with a picture of a train, some images might have slightly larger wheels than others, and by careful comparison between the silhouette and each image the aim is to whittle it down to just the right answer.
Therefore this puzzle is both great fun and very visual - whilst at the same time helping children learn to discriminate between different objects and their similarities and differences.
