Mental Arithmetic Puzzle

Mental Arithmetic Puzzle Instructions:
Here's how to play Mental Arithmetic Puzzle:
The mental arithmetic puzzle contains three series of calculations, that are easy, medium and hard in difficulty respectively.

You must complete as many of the sums as you can in your head as quickly as possible. Targets of either 30 seconds or 1 minute are usually given.

Mental Arithmetic Puzzles - Practice Makes Perfect

Mental arithmetic is undoubtedly one of those areas where practice makes perfect. Yet after we leave school many people don't really do mental arithmetic again, which can make even summing up a few items when going shopping difficult.

However, help is at hand! Mental arithmetic puzzles may not sound like a barrel of laughs, yet they are strangely addictive, challenging and fun! Doing them daily and seeing your solving speed increase is immensely satisfying, and also helps in those scenarios whereby you have one ten pound note left and want to know if you can afford to add on that chocolate bar at the till without tipping your bill over the £10 limit!

A sample puzzle can be seen to the right of this text. The easy puzzle is a warm-up, but if you've not done mental arithmetic for a while, then this could be the one to start with whilst you brush off those mental cobwebs.

The moderate and advanced puzzles are, of course, harder - but all calculations are designed to be do-able, we won't be asking you for the square root of 6,561 (which as you know is of course 81)... and you can set your own time limit. We suggest 30 seconds but it is best, and most beneficial, simply to set your own targets and then see how quickly you can bring your solving times down.

There are a variety of calculation types that can appear depending on the difficulty of the puzzle, from the standard addition, subtraction, multiplication and division through to percentages, square roots and even some very simple powers.

Mental arithmetic puzzles make an enjoyable addition to all sorts of publications, not just puzzle ones - many daily newspapers feature a daily mental arithmetic, brain training or brain challenge puzzle.
