Want a sample before you buy? Look below!
Example of a Year One Puzzle:
Here is an example of a Year One puzzle. Although it might seem daunting at first, there’s a very easy way to find the secret message: read down the columns instead of across the rows. This reveals the message to be ‘You are number one’. Simple!

Example of a Year Two Puzzle:
This Year Two puzzle is more challenging, although as before it will solve easily when you think outside the box. The key to cracking this one is working out the meaning of C and V. They could mean many things, but since you’re looking for a word, it’s reasonable to assume that C stands for ‘consonant’ and V for ‘vowel’. C6 is the sixth consonant, H, and V2 is the second vowel, E. The full message is ‘Hello’.

Example of a Year Three Puzzle:
Year Three puzzles are designed to test your puzzle-solving skills. They often have multiple stages and require you to look for patterns while not demanding any leaps of faith. In the puzzle above, you’re asked to work out which word comes next. The first stage is realising that each of the words are anagrams of colours – red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo – and so the next word should be ‘violet’. However, you still have to work out the method used to scramble the letter, so you can scramble your answer in the same way. It’s simple when you see it: every letter is in alphabetical order. ‘Violet’ is EILOTV.
In addition to solutions and two pages of common codes, Spy Training also contains a hints section at the back for Year Two and Year Three puzzles. Everyone gets stuck on a puzzle sometimes, and we don’t want our readers to be frustrated. Our hints are clear, not cryptic – they’re there to help you over the finish line.
