What is an SMS Text Message Code?

This is a type of puzzle whereby you are given the numbers that represent a message typed into the keypad of a mobile phone. For instance 'hello' is represented by the numbers '43556' being typed on the keypad.

This tool will give you a list of words that match a particular set of numbers to help give you some ideas when solving text message / SMS puzzles.

Note that of course if a word isn't in the dictionary it won't show up in the results.

If there is more than one option that matches the string of numbers, then each of those options will be presented to you on the following page so you can decide which is the most appropriate / most likely word represented by the respective string of numbers.

Why would I want to use this tool?

There are a range of puzzles that involve a message being turned into a string of numbers, or perhaps a series of themed words. For instance there might be a puzzle where several countries are represented as the numbers that would need to be typed on a mobile phone / cellphone keypad in order to enter those countries into an SMS message.

The purpose of this tool is to help you solve puzzles such as the above - where you are given the numbers that make up a word or series of words and you need to find out what words those numbers represent.

Can I also encode a message?

Yes, if you want to turn a word in English into the numbers that would represent it in a text message, then you can do so.
