# What are the rules of kuromasu?

This is probably one of the least known Japanese puzzles in the West.

It is a logic puzzle and like many is played on a rectangular shaped grid.

In the start position, some cells have numbers in, like in sudoku, however they are usually circled. In the grid a cell may be either filled ir empty.

You must work out whether a cell is filled or empty by playing within the rules:

- numbered cells are always white
- black cells cannot touch
- all white cells are connected
- a number indicates how many white cells are visible from the said cell. Importantly this includes the cell itself - forgetting this can lead to great frustration! Black cells stop cells from seeing each other; otherwise all cells in the same row/column are 'seen'.
