How do you play non-consecutive sudoku?

To have any chance of solving this puzzle which has very few givens, you need to understand the key rule change.

And that rule change is that adjacent cells cannot contain consecutive numbers.

For instance if the middle cell of a row contains a 4, then the four adjacent cells cannot contain 4 either (as per the usual sudoku rules) however they also cannot contain 3 or 5 either.

Therefore of course you can't get a 4x4 non-consecutive sudoku!

The most common version of this variant seen is the 9x9. Sometimes they even wrap around the edges, so the left, right, top and bottom most cells also cannot be consecutive to their partners in the opposite positions.
